FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Retirees in the Fort Bragg and surrounding area now have another choice for healthcare. Womack Army Medical Center is actively seeking enrollment of retirees and their Family members at WAMC clinics, said Col. (Dr.) Kenneth Batts, WAMC Department Chief of Family Medicine.
“We presently have about 6,800 retirees being treated at WAMC clinics. We would like to increase those numbers to 12,000, even more. You can come back into our facilities and receive direct care from us,” said Batts.
Seeking new patients is dependent on a community health care system’s capacity to enroll, said Laura Mota, WAMC DFM health system specialist.
“For awhile, we were not able to take in (retirees). We are now open for retiree enrollment and we want to get that word out that they can come in,” she said.
This was a decision made at the local command level that WAMC wanted to enroll more of the retiree population, said Batts.
“A lot of retirees have told us that they want to come back to us,” added Mary Coburn, WAMC Department of Family Medicine senior nurse manager.
Military retirees up to age 65 may enroll at any of the WAMC clinics.
“The way (retirees’) insurance is provided, there is a premium that is paid to TRICARE Prime once you’ve retired,” said Coburn.
TRICARE Prime enrollment fees for Fiscal Year 2013 (Oct. 1, 2012 to Sept. 30, 2013) is currently $269.28 for individuals and $538.56 for Families.
Current TRICARE Prime Beneficiaries who are enrolled to a network provider can request to be enrolled to a military treatment facility clinic by calling 877-TRICARE (874-2273) or visiting the TRICARE Service Center located in the Soldier Support Center on the fifth floor. The service center can also be reached at 907-6926 or 907-6778.
“If they are enrolled in the network right now or even move from another state, they can do this over the telephone or they can do it online,” said Mota.
New TRICARE Prime enrollees should visit the TRICARE Service Center to sign up for TRICARE Prime, she added.
